Do You Need Help With a Criminal Matter?

From DUIs, To Traffic, and Misdemeanor Cases, We Can Help!

           Is it worth the battle?

Crime doesn’t pay. In fact it can be rather costly. Between lawyer’s fees, court fees, and restitution, a criminal case can be the start of a financial downward spiral. A good lawyer will listen to you, and make sure that your money and time are well spent. A winning case will cut court costs but may add up in legal fees. A losing case, if fought, can cost time and money, only to cost you more money in the end. Plea deals don’t sound attractive but a great lawyer will help you weigh your options, negotiate your plea, reduce your charges, and help you save money.

Driving Under the Influence?

It’s simple don’t do it. With ubers, taxis, and friends, there really is no reason to be driving under the influence. These charges do not just affect your driving privileges, but they also will take a toll on your personal life and career. Most people do not realize that driving under the influence is not limited to alcohol but also marijuana and prescription medications. The easiest way to avoid these cases is to be responsible and plan ahead.

Now if you happen to be on the road, the number one rule of thumb is don’t give out free information. If you are pulled over for any type of traffic stop, your best option is to comply with lawful orders such as providing your driver’s license and proof of insurance. Other than that, do not answer any questions, and refuse to take any test. Refusal to take a breathalizer test will lead to an automatic suspension of your license in some states like Illinois; however, a suspended license is better than a DUI charge. Field sobriety tests are similar, if you are under the influence, you are better of simply saying no to the tests. This will suck in the moment but will help you at trial when the state has no evidence to use against you.

The best advice I can give is don’t do it.

Charged with a Misdemeanor or Felony?

Every crime is based on a statute. Could be a state law, federal law or municipal code. The solution is in the problem. By understanding the statute, your attorney will understand how to fight the case. Some cases require a certain mens rea, or intent. While other cases don’t require anything other than the fact that it happened. This difference can be seen in a rape vs. statutory rape charge. It’s important to speak with an attorney that knows the law and understands how to attack each situation.
